A midsummer Night dream :: essays research papers fc
The second half of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th are sometimes called in England â⬠The Age of Shakespeareâ⬠. William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s the greatest English poet and dramatist and an indisputed world figure in literature. Altought his works (37 play, 154 sonnets and two long poems) are well knwnall over the world we know little about his life. Shakespeare was born on 23 April 1564, at stratford ââ¬âupon-Avon, a little town in the heart of England. He was educated at the local grammarschool but as his fatherââ¬â¢s business went from bad to worse, he had to leave school and begin to earn his living. We next hear of him when were eighteen and a married man. At the age of twenty-one, he set off to seek his fortune in the gratuity of London. There, he was inturn a horse-keep, a stage-boy, a play mender and finally a play-Wright. Shakespeare spent the last years of his life at Stratford, where he died on the 23rd of April 1616. William Shakespeare was a great humanist. His interes in the life and the people of his time made him watch with an observant eye the scenery of his native country, men and women in all walks of life, their appearance, habits and speech. He was familiar with the traditions of English folklore and showed deep concern for his people and his countyââ¬â¢s destiny.His work may be divided into three periods: I.à à à à à The first period is hat of poems the sonnets, the historical plays or ââ¬Å"chroniclesâ⬠(Richard II, Richard III, Henry IV Julius Caesar etc.) comedies (Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night Dream, The Taming of the Shrew, The Merchant of Venice, etc) and a few tragedies (Romeo and Juliet, etc.). In general Shakespeareââ¬â¢s writings in this period are full of optimism. II.à à à à à The second period includes the great tragedies (Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth) The disillusionment of the humanists is felt throughout. III.à à à à à The third period includes the ââ¬Å"romanceâ⬠plays (The Tempest, The Winter`s Tale, etc.) which are caracterized by a more serene atmosphere. Altought Shakespeare`s language is very difficult, almost evry word combination forms a picture. To understand Shakespeare (both his language and his ideas), we have not ââ¬Å"to readâ⬠but ââ¬Å"to studyâ⬠his works as our great poet Mihai Eminescu said. The apeat compilation of stiles from the comical group of William Shakespeare has a tipical example in A Midsummer Nigt`s Dream. In this opera, the ââ¬Å"Maskâ⬠-specific for this time joins to the popular medieval theatre elements, represented by the guilds & english folklore.

Frederick Douglass vs. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay
MLK Jr and Frederick Douglass both have the same thoughts on how African Americans should be treated different. The main difference between there thoughts are how they feel about how African Americans get treated by white people. Frederick Douglass was a slave who escaped form slavery but while in it he was treated horrible. Since he was treated so bad his point of view and perspective on white people is that there all evil no matter whom they are. But from MLKââ¬â¢s perspective he just wants African Americans to have equal rights just like they should. Frederick Douglass was born a slave and has been around slavery all his life. During slavery the slaveholders never held back and never showed mercy when they punished slaves. Frederick Douglass was punished so much and to him slaveholders and white people are evil. So since Frederick Douglass has only really seen white people when there mad and when they harm him, that is why his point of view on them is so different then MLKââ¬â¢s. That is also why Frederick Douglassââ¬â¢s speech is different from MLKââ¬â¢s letter they both have two different perspectives on white people. Martin Luther King on the other hand is totally different. He really just wants peace for his people and the same rights. He believes that all humans are the same and created from the same person so why donââ¬â¢t African Americans have equal rights as everyone else. He knows the nicer white people and he also knows the white people who donââ¬â¢t care at all about what he wants. So unlike Frederick Douglass who didnââ¬â¢t know any nice white people MLK knew people who were on his side and the people who were totally out to get him. That is why MLKââ¬â¢s letter is different than Frederick Douglassââ¬â¢s speech. They both do have there similarities though. They both want the same for there people and thatââ¬â¢s peace and to be equal. MLK enforced it a lot more than Frederick Douglass but in the end they both wanted the same thing for there people. They both suffered a lot from wanting equal rights but they made it. MLK got put into jail for awhile and was humiliated and Frederick Douglass was nearly beat to death everyday and was humiliated so muchà everyday but in the end it was all worth it because now African Americans are equal and have there rights. In the end these two men got what they worked so hard for, there rights for there people and equality. They both had a goal and achieved it they never gave up no matter how hard it got or no matter how much trouble they got into they strived for there goal and achieved it. These two men are inspirations to most people because of what they have donââ¬â¢t to help there people and themselves.

Women in Homers Odyssey, Joyces Ulysses and Walcotts Omeros This essay explores the role of women in Homers Odyssey, James Joyces Ulysses (1922) and Derrick Walcotts Omeros (1990), epics written in very different historical periods. Common to all three epics are women as the transforming figure in a mans life, both in the capacity of a harlot and as wife. In Homers Odyssey, Kirke, represents the catalyst who encourages Odysseuss transformation into a mature man. Homer uses Kirke, a godly nymph who displays divine powers, to portray the harlot. After sailing away from the Laistryones, Odysseus and his crew land on Aiaia. (Homer 175). Odysseus demands that Kirke not work anymore enchantments on him or his crew. The goddess agrees and restores harmony to her palace and lures Odysseus into her bed. Kirkes subordination denotes the diminution of authority women experience when men no longer perceive them as seductresses but as wives instead. Kirkes nymphs bring Odysseus a tunic and cloak, a throw rug for his chair, a table full of gold, a goblet full of wine, a cauldron for a bath, a nd sweet oil for a massage. Homer describes these nurturing nymphs as catering to Odysseuss needs to support the argument that Odysseuss ten years of war has caused him to regress into a primordial condition that requires maternal nurture and nurture. Now came a maid to tip a golden jug of water into a silver finger bowl, ....The larder mistress brought her tray of loaves with many savory slices, and she gave the best, to tempt me (Homer 176). Water service in a shiny finger bowl resembles a holy ceremony or benediction, and the loaves of bread the body of Christ and the trilogy of mass. In the maid serving Odysseus both bread and water after his conquest of Kirke, Homer suggests the betrothal of two divine spirits co-joined in matrimony that support Odysseus

APush Book Report, Lewis and Clark Among the Indians Essay...
Introduction: The book I read was Lewis and Clark Among the Indians: By James P. Rhonda. It included a lot of other information that helped me understand Lewis and Clarks view towards the Indians. It introduced me to a new name of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the Corps of Discovery. This book was written in the 3rd person as a narrative. It was written for the purpose of informing the reader of the Corps of Discovery and its major components, also to help the reader understand the relationships between whites and Indians. Before starting this book, the reader does not have to have any prior knowledge of Lewis and Clark, since this book was very informative. Short Summary: At the beginning of this book, Thomas Jefferson is trying toâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Getting :Across the Divideâ⬠and ââ¬Å"down the Columbiaâ⬠(2 chapter titles) was extremely hard for Lewis and Clark, but they made it. This talks about going up the Missouri river, through the Missouri breaks, to Three Forks of Missouri, the Salmon River, the Columbia Plain, and many more. The end of the book is about the struggle for them to try and get back home in one season. The weather was a big part of the reason the trip was so hard. Analysis: I would say that James Rhonda really focuses on the relationships between the whites and the Indians. It really helped me understand Overall, the trip that Lewis and Clark and others took was extremely influential and helpful to our society today. Evaluation/reaction: Overall, I thought this book was pretty boring. The chapters flowed together well but still provided different information, so that was a plus, but I still felt like reading this book was very tedious. It went into extreme detail, especially about the different Indian tribes, that I think maybe might not have been necessary to have a good understanding of Lewis and Clark. However, the book got a little more interesting as I read on and continued to read about the topic. Usually, I donââ¬â¢t like nonfiction books, so this was not a huge surprise that this book was not my favorite. I would give this book a limited recommendation:
